THE ION SCANNER: ARBITRARINES

In Sector 5, Chapter 3 of the internet version of Justice behind the Walls I describe CSC's introduction of ionscan machines at the front gate of institutions as part of the war on drugs. Since writing that chapter the use of ionscanners has expanded and the unfairness and violations of the CCRA associated with ionscanning that I document in Chapter 3 now constitute the most recent and disturbing example of correctional arbitrariness. As opposed to other examples of arbitrariness, this latest one is dramatically affecting innocent citizens whose only crime is offering support to the imprisoned.
